87 Excellent Balance Japanese Flute Shinobue Bamboo Flute Classical Style 7 Holes 4 Hon Choshi Negishi Shinobue Studio
This is made to the same specifications as the Shishida and Maruyama shinobue.
This instrument has good balance and produces a clear sound. It is on the thicker side, so it also produces good low notes. It can also produce the high note Dai-ko-on 4.5.
As it is handmade using natural materials, it may have natural shapes, patterns, bends, and scratches.
The volume (it can be quite piercing to the ears) and tone quality are superior to a standard shinobue.
I have been researching physics for a long time and have succeeded in selecting materials that are easy to play and produce a resonant sound.
I discovered that only bamboo that meets certain conditions will produce sound from the tube itself.
Thickness: Approximately 24mm around the mouthpiece.
Length: Approximately 48.7cm.
Mouthpiece size: Approximately 16.5mm.
Bamboo hardness: Medium.
Thickness: Thick.
Pitch: Approximately 4.5 hon (a unit of measurement for pitch in Japanese flutes).
Range: It cleanly plays from Tsutsumi-on (lowest note) up to Dai-ko-on 5.
This instrument is made based on standard shinobue fingerings and techniques. Please note that fingerings for special techniques or high notes may vary by region. We recommend confirming these in the comments.
What is Wa-fue (Japanese Flute)?
Wa-fue is a transverse flute that has been made by flute makers in Kyoto since the Heian period and passed down throughout the country.
The traditional form of ensemble music (O-bayashi) and folk Shinto music (Satokagura), which are designated as intangible cultural assets, originally used wa-fue (bamboo flutes). (It is a Japanese indigenous transverse flute.)
Characteristics:
It is characterized by having nodes, made from bamboo such as Madake and Hachiku. It is also called a bamboo flute.
It reached its peak from the mid-Edo period to the Meiji period and spread throughout the country, where it was used in local O-bayashi and Satokagura.
However, it declined from the end of the Meiji period into the Showa period. Around this time, Shishida-brand shinobue became widespread throughout the country, and the difficult-to-play and expensive wa-fue seemed to lose out to the shinobue.
The origin of wa-fue (bamboo flute) is in Kyoto, and the origin of shinobue is in Tokyo. (Kyoto's bamboo flute, Edo's shinobue) (Dragon's bamboo flute, Lion's shinobue)
There appear to be only a few wa-fue craftsmen remaining in the country. (As it is extremely difficult to make, very few craftsmen can both play and produce them.)
They seem to be quite expensive (around 50,000 yen).
We strive to produce wa-fue that are as easy to play and resonant as possible, at an affordable price.
Please note that price reductions are not possible.
