Alesis Digital Multitrack Recorder, ADAT-XT (Junk)

ADAT-XT (Junk Item)
The ADAT-XT, released in 1996, is an 8-channel digital recorder that utilizes S-VHS tapes and was widely used in professional recording studios in Japan.
Instead of using proprietary media, it could use standard S-VHS tapes, making it an extremely affordable recorder (around 500,000 yen in Japan) at a time when DAWs were not common, and it became very popular.
Recording times are as follows: 22 minutes on an S-VHS 60-minute tape, 40 minutes on a 120-minute tape, and 62 minutes on a 180-minute tape.
At the time, Moridaira Gakki was the importer and distributor of A-DAT in Japan, and this unit comes with a Japanese manual from Moridaira.
While digital multi-track audio recording is commonplace today, it's impressive to think about what was achieved over 20 years ago.

About this unit:
When powered on, the 7-segment LED displays ADAT-XT (Photo 5).
I inserted an S-VHS tape and pressed the [PLAY] button, but it started briefly and then stopped.
The [REWIND], [FAST FWD], and [EJECT] buttons function normally. The [RECORD] button could not be tested because the [PLAY] function is not working.
Channels 2, 3, and 4 out of channels 1-8 must be selected by pressing a combination of the [2], [3], and [4] buttons, possibly due to contact issues.

The playback function is defective, and it is suspected that there is a mechanical issue causing it to get stuck.
We believe that someone knowledgeable about mechanics might be able to repair it, so this item is being sold as a junk item.
We kindly ask for your understanding that this is a junk item.
