[The Sony ICR-S22 is a sub-pocket, business card-sized AM-only radio. Using a single-chip IC, it is one of the smallest radios with a built-in speaker that runs on AAA batteries.

It is a very compact radio. It is believed to be the successor to the ICR-S9, a radio of the same size. The design changed from a sharp, linear style to one that emphasizes curves, and from flashy colors to a simple, solid black. The catalog thickness increased by about 1mm, but this appears to be due to the standardization of measurement methods within the industry (EIAJ). The ICR-S9 did not include the speaker protrusion.
In terms of features, the switches became electronic, and an auto power-off function for 90 minutes was added. This reduced the risk of forgetting to turn off the power or electrolyte leakage due to over-discharge of dry batteries. The earphone jack was changed from a standard 3.5mm mini-jack to a 2.5mm ultra-mini-jack.
