This adapter converts a FireWire400 (IEEE1394: 4-pin) terminal to a FireWire800 (IEEE1394b: 9-pin) terminal. It allows you to connect peripherals such as FireWire400-compatible HDDs to a FireWire800 terminal.

This is especially recommended for Macs such as MacBook Pro and iMac that only have FireWire800 terminals, when you want to connect FireWire400-compatible devices. Since it is a compact conversion adapter type, you can easily use it by connecting it to your existing FireWire400 cable.
