Synopsis
Guillermo del Toro, the Mexican auteur known for The Shape of Water and Pan's Labyrinth, brings to the screen Frankenstein, the gothic novel created by 19th-century British author Mary Shelley, which has influenced countless subsequent works. This project, which del Toro has long desired to bring to film, also sees him serving as producer and screenwriter.

Driven by his own desires, Victor Frankenstein embarks on the challenge of creating new life. The existence of the monster born from this endeavor raises questions about what it means to be human and what truly constitutes a monster.

Oscar Isaac, known for Star Wars and Dune, plays Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi of Priscilla and Saltburn takes on the role of the monster. The cast also includes Mia Goth from X, Christoph Waltz from Django Unchained, and Felix Kammerer from All Quiet on the Western Front. The cinematography is by Dan Laustsen of The Shape of Water and Nightmare Alley, and the music is by Alexandre Desplat of The Shape of Water. The film will be available on Netflix starting November 7, 2025, with a limited theatrical release beginning October 24.

Selected for the Competition section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in 2025. Nominated for a total of 9 categories at the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won awards for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
