Released by Onkyo in 1989, a time when many AV equipment manufacturers existed, these are monitor-like speakers favored by audiophiles. When I acquired them several years ago, the rubber surrounds had already been replaced, so I have not heard the original sound. However, they are currently playing without any issues.
The exterior has a small tear on the grille of the left speaker. There are also minor scratches around the entire enclosure.

This speaker system was developed by thoroughly analyzing the sound of small speakers to acquire the know-how to create a natural sound, and by improving the low-frequency reproduction capability and efficiency, which are inherent limitations of small speakers.
For low frequencies, a 14cm cone woofer made of high-crystal delphinium olefin is used. By molding the cone into a unique S-shaped curve, a frequency response free from peaks at the high-frequency resonance frequency (fh) and characteristic irregularities due to edge reflections is achieved. Furthermore, it employs a 30mm diameter voice coil, the same size as that used in the D-500, and achieves high efficiency despite its small diameter unit, thanks to the powerful driving force of a double magnet (80φx40φx12mm and 70φx32φx8mm).
For high frequencies, a newly developed 2.5cm soft dome tweeter with a titanium oxide coating is used. Based on polyester fibers, a special material blended with titanium oxide is coated onto the soft dome itself, improving high-frequency characteristics in addition to the inherent high internal loss of the soft dome.
The unit also features a magnetically shielded double magnet system (80φx40φx12mm for the main magnet and 70φx32φx10mm for the cancellation magnet).
