Showa Era Mono Powered Speaker - Built-in Amplifier Speaker - 2 Units

This is a listing for a pair of Showa-era monaural powered speakers.

The sticker on the back indicates the manufacturing date as 59.11, which we believe corresponds to November 1984.

The manufacturer is listed as Daimei Tsushin Kogyo Co., Ltd.

Model: NC-5S, BGM. AMPLIFIER

These are monaural active speakers, each with a built-in amplifier and separate power supply.

Why not use them as a stereo pair?

Input is RCA monaural.

Features a 16cm full-range unit with a bass-reflex design (bass-reflex port is board thickness only).

These were purchased used. Due to the unique power supply, I had intended to change it to a current figure-8 type, but they remained untouched in storage.

For this listing, I have directly soldered the power cords and routed them through the holes in the rear panel.

Please note that this was done by an amateur, and I cannot guarantee against solder peeling or other issues.

These were not originally a left/right pair. While the unit model numbers are the same, the characters at the very bottom, possibly lot numbers, are different.

The method of attaching the units also differs: one is secured with screws, the other with nuts.

Damper material has been applied to the speaker surrounds. There is some stickiness and staining.

Operation has been confirmed (for both units).

Power turns on, and the pilot lamp in the upper right illuminates. (There is a faint pop noise upon power-on.)

There was some crackling in the volume control, but it resolved with continuous turning. For peace of mind, a small amount of contact cleaner was applied.

Tone control functions have been tested.

After playing music for about an hour, the warm, nostalgic sound, combined with the retro appearance, was quite captivating. I found myself engrossed in the music.

These are old products. While we cannot guarantee their original condition, they are currently operational. Maintenance may be required for long-term use.

There are no major scratches, but there are minor scratches and scuffs.

Perhaps they were wall-mounted? There are screw holes on the top of the enclosure. (Photos 9 & 10)

Also on the top of the enclosure, there is some stubborn dirt, possibly adhesive. (Photo 9)

There may be other scratches not visible in the photos.

These are old, used items. Please purchase only after understanding their condition.

If you have any questions, please feel free to comment before purchasing.

Thank you for your consideration.
