The Magma uses a special heat-retaining ceramic core. Simply heat the Magma in the microwave for approximately 2–3 minutes, then place your hot dish on top. It gradually releases the stored heat and can keep food warm for approximately 1 hour.  It can also be used as a cooling plate after being placed in the freezer.
