Japanese Katsuobushi Kezuriki Bonito Shaver Kanna Wood Box Blade Japan

Pre-owned, very good condition. Shows light signs of age, storage, and previous use. Wood presents nicely with minor surface wear. Blade shows age/use consistent with a functional traditional cutting tool. Please review all photos closely for condition and markings. Traditional Japanese katsuobushi kezuriki, a wooden bonito-flake shaver used to shave blocks of dried bonito into thin flakes for making dashi and other Japanese dishes. This example features a removable kanna-style wooden plane fitted with a traditional metal blade. Shaved bonito falls directly into the fitted wooden collection box/drawer below. The blade bears a Japanese maker/trademark cartouche and is separately stamped JAPAN. The wooden body also retains its original-style circular MADE IN JAPAN label with logo. Beautiful traditional construction includes exposed finger/box joints, fitted removable components, wooden collection drawer, and decorative metal drawer pull. The exact blade maker and date of manufacture have not been conclusively identified, so no specific maker or production period is being attributed to the piece. * Traditional katsuobushi / bonito flake shaver * Japanese kezuriki * Removable kanna-style shaving plane * Marked metal blade * Blade stamped JAPAN * MADE IN JAPAN label on wooden body * Wooden collection box with drawer * Finger/box-jointed construction * Metal drawer pull * Exact maker and age unknown although stamp gives that information
