This aircraft was developed as a competitor to Lockheed's proposal (later the F-22) in the U.S. Air Force's ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter) program. It made its first flight on August 27, 1990. Production was not pursued after the F-22 was selected as the ATF in 1991.
