Antique Seymour Smith & Son No. 3 Double Spokeshave – Oakville, Connecticut USA Fantastic old American woodworking tool featuring Seymour Smith & Son's unusual two-in-one double spokeshave design. This No. 3 incorporates two separate cutting configurations into a single cast-metal tool: one flat/straight sole and one curved/round sole, allowing the craftsman to work both flat and curved surfaces without switching spokeshaves. Most importantly, both original cutters are present and clearly stamped “SEYMOUR SMITH & SON.” The tool retains a substantial amount of its old black finish and has excellent age-earned character. There is surface oxidation, patina, finish loss and general wear consistent with an antique working tool. Hardware and cutters are present as shown. This piece has not been aggressively cleaned, polished or restored, preserving the original finish, markings and patina for the next owner. A great example of an uncommon early American double spokeshave and an excellent addition to a collection of antique woodworking tools, planes, spokeshaves or Connecticut-made tools.
