19th Century Antique French Copper Ferrat Hand Hammered Water Carrier/Log Bin
N/A
This is a beautifully preserved 19th-century European antique copper Ferrat (a traditional water carrier and grain measure). Handcrafted with incredible detail, this heavy-gauge copper vessel is a striking example of historical metalworking that makes an exceptional statement piece for rustic, farmhouse, or European country home decor. Hand-Hammered Texture: The entire exterior body features subtle, uneven manual hammer marks, reflecting its authentic pre-industrial creation. Traditional Dovetailed Bottom: The flush flat base showcases beautifully visible hand-crimped dovetail seams (cramp joints) along the bottom edge, a classic hallmark of genuine 19th-century construction. Wavy Structural Ribbing: Features a prominent, hand-formed wavy horizontal copper band around the middle, historically used to reinforce the walls under heavy water weight. Heavy-Duty Handles: Fitted with wide, flush-mounted copper loop handles securely joined near the upper rim. Authentic Patina: Boasts a stunning, unpolished natural patina shifting from a rich amber-copper to light, organic exterior verdigris (green copper oxidation). The interior displays historic lining wear. Overall Condition is Excellent for age! Couple of intentions along the seam at the bottom where it was hand hammered as well as the ridge around upper half of bucket/pail. It truly an amazing piece! I personally purchased this item many years ago from an antique dealer.
