On April 9th, I went to Katsuura with Kiyomaru Ferry.
There were small fish nibbling at the bait, so it was a good decision to bring the bait-catching powder.
From the morning, I saw 20 to 30 Ono-nagagure (large black sea bream) around 45 to 55 cm, about two hiro (fathom) deep, and thought it would be a good day. However, they would float up to the chum but reject the bait, and even if they took it, they would spit it out within 0.3 seconds. I heavily used Red Carpet, and with a 6-go (size 6) hook and 3-go (size 3) leader, I managed to hook a fish over 50 cm right as it took the bait. Unfortunately, it straightened the hook on its third run, and I couldn't land it. In the end, I caught 17 fish ranging from 26 to 36 cm, but I couldn't land the big ones. However, I truly believe that using Red Carpet, which allows even thick leaders and large hooks to be accepted, is revolutionary.
Sight fishing for big sea bream is incredibly exciting. The moment you hook them and they shake their heads is the best feeling.
Red Carpet works exceptionally well after spawning. The key to mixing it is to first let the Red Carpet absorb the smell of krill. This enhances its fish-attracting effect. When there are many bait-stealing fish, mixing in Red Carpet as a top-up, trying not to let it absorb too much krill smell, doesn't have much fish-attracting power but acts as a visual distraction.
The mixing ratio is about 2 to 4 kg of bran for 3 kg of krill, and about 3 to 5 kg of Red Carpet. It's easier to use the bait-catching powder by adding it handful by handful. It's better not to mix it in from the beginning.
The downside of Red Carpet is that it's incredibly heavy, to the point of being demoralizing. But it has many advantages. First, the chum clumps together without breadcrumbs (if it's too loose, add a little breadcrumbs), allowing for super long casts and synchronization between chum and bait. You might think I'm joking, but Red Carpet creates an incredible smoke screen with the chum, enveloping the bait. This is truly amazing. It's highly effective for fish that are wary of leaders and hooks.
It makes it easier for sea bream and other fish to take the bait initially. This allows you to use a thicker leader and hook.
I personally find it revolutionary. It also helps you understand the flow of bottom currents, double currents, and surface wind currents.
The cloudiness is from the smell of krill (lol).
Experience this cloudiness and weight (lol).
There's a world you don't know in this chum (super lol).
