[Japanese Traditional Culture]
Ogura Hyakunin Isshu is a card game for enjoying Japanese classical literature. Hyakunin Isshu is a game using waka poetry and holds high cultural value.
Wooden Hyakunin Isshu cards (Shimonokuta Karuta) are primarily known as a traditional culture of Hokkaido and represent a unique style exclusive to the region.

[High-Quality Cards]
A rare Hyakunin Isshu used in Hokkaido.
The dominant style is Shimonokuta Karuta, where players compete by reciting only the latter half of the poems (shimonokuta) from wooden cards. These are written in variant kana on boards made of materials like magnolia. It became popular as a winter pastime in Hokkaido's farming and fishing villages from the mid-Meiji period and has been certified as a Hokkaido Heritage.
