RARE 1994 Chicago & North Western Railroad Harriman Safety Award Watch Working

A wonderful piece of American railroad history and C&NW railroadiana.  This vintage watch prominently features the Chicago & North Western Railroad System emblem on the dial along with the 1994 Harriman Award designation. The watch represents the final era of the historic Chicago & North Western Railway before its acquisition by Union Pacific in 1995.  This is being offered primarily as a railroad collector’s watch and piece of C&NW memorabilia. The railroad emblem and Harriman Award connection are the highlights of this unusual piece.  History/Background Information: This watch was issued to Chicago & North Western Railroad employees in 1995 to commemorate the 1994 Harriman Safety Award. The Harriman award was founded in 1913 by Mary Averell Harriman The 1994 award was the final Harriman Award associated with Chicago & North Western before the railroad was acquired by Union Pacific in 1995. UP announced on January 5, 2012 that the Harriman award will be retired. This is after 98 years of being awarded.
