Vintage Brutalist Wrought Iron Basket Bowl

This striking piece is a textbook example of vintage mid-century Brutalist. Wrought iron fruit bowl featuring a striking sunburst design with radiating serrated metal fins and a high arched handle … combining deliberate industrial raw design with functional artistry. Produced between the 1950s and 1970s. Many of these hand-forged, spiky sunburst designs were crafted in Spain (often distributed by mid-century importers), while similar variants came out of the Netherlands. The Brutalist movement was a direct reaction against the highly polished, sterile, and ornate styles of previous generations. It celebrated raw materials, exposed construction techniques (like visible welds), bold asymmetry, and rugged, primitive textures. The bowl features radiating serrated metal fins or petals hand-cut from heavy sheets of iron. The intentionally jagged, unfinished edges give it its aggressive yet sculptural silhouette. These pieces were hand-forged or welded, meaning no two items are exactly identical. The basket is anchored by a high, sturdy handle constructed from heavy-gauge twisted iron. It rests securely on three welded footed pads and features a naturally dark, blackened iron finish with a textured, aged patina that gains character over time. Today, these console baskets are highly sought after by collectors of industrial and bohemian mid-century modern aesthetics. Measurements/all sides shown in photos. In great condition.
