This is an antique maru obi, likely from the Taisho to early Showa period, approximately 100 years old.
The fabric is substantial and has a good weight to it.
The color is very chic, and it features a crane motif, which I was told indicates it was a fine piece used for weddings. It belonged to my grandmother.
While I'm not an expert on obi, the patterns of pine, bamboo, plum, chrysanthemums, and fans suggest it was indeed for wedding use. Please refer to the photos.
As it is an old item, I have listed it as Slightly scratched or dirty, but I don't see any tears or significant damage, and considering its age, I believe it is in good condition. There are faint discolorations that look like stains on the plain parts (Photos 5 & 9).
We are looking for buyers who appreciate historical value and the charm of antiques.
This obi is perfect for those who love vintage items, and of course, it can be used as an obi, or creatively as a tapestry, for remakes, or other various uses.
The old protective paper (tatōshi) has deteriorated, so it will not be included. The obi will be sent in a compact package.
