[What is Persimmon Tannin?]
Persimmon tannin is a liquid made by fermenting and aging the juice extracted from unripe green persimmons.
It has waterproofing and anti-rot properties, and has been traditionally used for wooden tools, farming implements, Japanese umbrellas, fans, and lacquerware. This is due to its anti-rot and waterproofing qualities when dry.
In recent years, it has been reconsidered as a measure against sick house syndrome when applied to house timbers for its insect-repellent, anti-rot, and waterproofing effects. It has actually been used on important cultural properties.
