Bank of Japan notes, Series A, 100 yen (4th Series 100 yen) x 20
The colors on both the front and back of the I type notes have been changed and used as is.
To distinguish them, a red mark has been added to the center bottom of the front: a cloud pattern and cherry blossoms.
These are commonly known as 4th Series 100 yen notes.
The original design was a statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva, led by the Ministry of Finance.
However, GHQ objected, stating that the angry or sad expressions of Buddhist statues are not good, and it could not be approved.
Due to the urgency of printing, Prince Shotoku, who had been used in the past, was chosen again.
The reason Prince Shotoku was chosen is said to be that a figure with a beard and wrinkles is difficult to copy and therefore difficult to counterfeit.
