Showa era Hanafuda playing cards in a rare wooden storage box
My great-grandmother was a prominent figure in Japanese traditional dance and had deep connections with geisha. She mentioned that people around her engaged in games like Hanafuda through various social circles. I've noted it as Showa era, but it might be from an earlier period; that part is unclear. I found this while organizing my parents' home.
As far as I can tell, it's a set for playing Hanafuda, including 60 Hanafuda cards and 48 calling cards, along with Daruma pieces and other items. The white and black circular pieces appear to be made of shell. There are also 6 baskets, which I believe were likely used for scoring or competition, but it's uncertain if all the cards and other items are complete.
This item would be valuable to collectors of traditional Japanese antiques or Hanafuda enthusiasts, as it is rarely offered for sale. Given its age and rarity, I am offering it at this price.
