An elegant antique medallion from the Napoleonic III era.
This is a religious art object (devotional object) from 19th century France.

This listing is for Christ. The price is for one item.
*A similar item featuring Mary is also available.

The center features an exquisite relief sculpture crafted from beautifully subdued plaster, protected by old, slightly uneven glass from the period.
The matte white plaster beautifully renders delicate details like hair in a three-dimensional manner.
The jet-black base with delicate gold lines creates a piece that exudes French elegance.

Rare inscription: The name Christus is engraved in an old font at the bottom of the sculpture.
The heavy, ebonized (ebony-like finish) frame, popular during the Napoleonic III style, beautifully enhances the white sculpture.

The glass top is adhered to the structure, so the contents cannot be removed.
This rare decorative glass features original flat glass over 100 years old.
The soft texture when light reflects off it is a charm unique to antiques.

The aged papier-mâché on the back and the oxidized brass wire loop (hanging hardware) confirm that this is an original item over 100 years old.
Paint peeling on the plaster base along the frame's edge imparts an authentic aged patina not found in modern mass-produced items.

As this item has passed through many years, there are scratches on the glass that look like they were made by fingernails, slight wobbling at the edges, small chips, and air bubbles. There are also small chips and scuffs on the corners of the frame on the back, but the central sculpture is protected by the glass and remains in very beautiful condition.
