【Hakata Magemono Lacquered Wooden Box with Lid】Natural Wood, Shibata Toku Shoten, Pine, Bamboo, Plum, Crane, Tortoise, Long-term Storage Item

Thank you for viewing.

Hakozaki Hachimangu Shrine in Hakata, along with Usa Hachimangu Shrine in Oita and Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in Kyoto, is known as one of Japan's three great Hachiman shrines and is a major shrine widely revered. In the past, magemono (bentwood crafts) making began in Mada, one of the temple town districts west of the shrine, from a story where a placenta box was dedicated when Emperor Ojin was born.

This is a traditional craft made by bending thin wood materials such as cedar and cypress after cutting them, and closing the seams with cherry bark. Since no metal fasteners like nails are used, and the long cherry bark is sewn together, it is very light, and the faint scent of wood further enhances the deliciousness of rice.
