Mata Ortiz Pottery  Artist: Hector Quintana   Hand Made  Hand Painted  Etched  Sgraffito  This is an amazing seed pot - olla - vase with a beautiful cardinal, floral and Paquime design. As with many of the talented artists in Mata Ortiz they blend traditional Mexican heritage with contemporary ceramic artistry.  Hector lives in the village - pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico.  He comes from a long line of potters including his wife Lupita Quezada Quintana and his son Chris Quintana.   Artist Signed On Bottom Of Piece Piece is 6 Inches Tall x 5 Inches In Diameter - The Opening Is 2 Inches In Diameter  All Mata Ortiz Pottery is hand made using the coil method - hand painted - etched - carved. Some using the sgraffito method for detail then fired most using outside burn method. The hand painted and etched - carved is done by hand they do not use stencils. There are many steps involved in making these gorgeous pieces.  They are not just mold made and factory finished totally handmade.  Pieces are purchased directly from the potters.  Our goal is to help the wonderful people of Mata Ortiz have a venue that allows the potters to share their fabulous pieces to the world.   New - Never Displayed Piece.
