Noguchi Masazo / Ohiko 2nd Generation - Houmongi (Visiting Kimono)
Please zoom in on the photos to see the details.
You will understand the effort put into selecting threads and the pursuit of beauty in each pattern.
The time and effort involved in modern kimono production are so different from around 1970 that it may be difficult for everyone to fully understand. That era was the last glimmer of the highest level of elegant kimono culture.
The artist's name is Masuzo Noguchi. He was a unique genius in dyeing, embroidery, and design at Oihiko, rivaling the Edo period.
This kimono is one of his masterpieces. First, the color. It's not mustard yellow, but a soft, Western-inspired yellow, which is very rare. Furthermore, the Western-style flowers such as freesias, tulips, and gerberas realized in this kimono are unprecedented. The artist has used novel colors, and what makes it even more unique is the use of metallic embroidery threads! The color selection surpasses that of a painting.
No department store's special kimono selection in Japan today features such a magnificent kimono.
Although it is old, its cultural value is completely different.
This is what we want modern people to appreciate.
