Vintage Fitz & Floyd Egret Heron Candleholder 1986 Porcelain Reeds & Cattails

Beautiful vintage ceramic egret/heron candle holder featuring a white wading bird with raised wings standing among green reeds and cattails. Glossy finish with detailed feathering, long beak, sculpted legs, and marsh grass base. The recessed holder is built into the reeds and can hold a small candle depending on size. Please see photos for measurements and condition.  The maker would pour liquid clay, called slip, into a multi-part mold to form the egret, reeds, cattails, and candle cup shape. After the piece firmed up, it would be removed from the mold, cleaned along the seam lines, and smaller details like the eyes, beak coloring, legs, cattails, and green reed shading would be hand-painted or hand-detailed. Then it was glazed and kiln-fired to create the glossy finish.  The smooth repeated sculptural details, glossy finish, and complex hollow form all point to factory ceramic production, not hand-carved one-of-a-kind pottery.
