This is a Takayuki-made Honkin Mokume-kome Takasago Doll.
It is a pair of dolls, the尉 (Jō - grandfather) and the 姥 (Uba - grandmother), symbolizing marital harmony and longevity.
It is based on the Noh play Takasago and is often sung at weddings as an auspicious song (Yōkyoku).
The grandfather's rake symbolizes gathering good fortune (financial luck), and the grandmother's broom symbolizes sweeping away evil spirits (warding off evil).
It was displayed in my home, but has been stored for the past few years.
I don't think there are any particularly noticeable scratches, but please look at the photos. Those who are concerned about minor details should refrain from purchasing.
