Vintage Antique Peruvian Peacock Tupo Tupu Shawl Brooch Pin Green Glass Cabochon
Vintage
This is a traditional detailed textured Figural Peruvian Peacock Tupo or Shawl Brooch Pin. For thousands of years, women in the Andes have used these pins to fasten their garments such as the lliclla (a common shoulder cloth, mostly used in villages). Measuring 3.5 long (from feathers to dangles) by 1.3/8 wide, the pin shows a peacock displaying an open array of thirteen stylized feathers. 3 chains hang from the base, each with an abstract charm. On back, there is a simple metal straight pin which fastens inside an open loop (which can be adjusted for desired tightness). The metal is unmarked but appears to be an antiqued bronze base metal. The chains and charms appear to be a silver tone metal. Maker and age are unknown. In good pre-owned condition with natural age related patina. Bin-WN-47
