★The Ito family has been in the business of creating Gosho Dolls since the Edo period. Since First received the name Yusoku Gosho Doll Master Ito Hisashige from Empress Go-Sakuramachi, they have served the Imperial Court for generations. Gosho Dolls were perfected in the mid-Edo period as ornamental Dolls and have been displayed during various celebrations such as Imperial court events, births, and weddings. The Ito family of Kyoto, who were the Gosho Doll Masters for the Imperial Court, passed down their craft under the patronage of the court. However, with the advent of the Meiji period and the discontinuation of the custom of bestowing Gosho Dolls, they found new avenues not only in Gosho Dolls but also in other types of Dolls, and began to produce Hina Dolls, Gogatso Dolls, and Ichimatsu Dolls.
