S. Yairi YD-308, Made in 1974
This is a listing for an S. Yairi YD308.
Based on the serial number, this guitar is from 1974. Although the model number is not printed on the neck block or fingerboard end, it features:
- Vertical logo
- All solid wood construction
- 3-piece back
- Abalone inlay
- Dot position markers
These characteristics suggest it is an early model YD-308.
It is a Martin D-45 style guitar.
The top and back are decorated with solid abalone, giving it a deep, lustrous, and luxurious appearance.
The vertical logo made of mother-of-pearl is also very cool.
The top is made of high-quality solid spruce (possibly German or Ezo spruce).
The sides and back are made of high-quality solid rosewood (honestly, I cannot definitively determine if it's Indian or Jacaranda).
The fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony.
The tuning machines are gold Schaller.
As stated in the catalog at the time, it is clear that the finest materials were used.
Regarding the condition, there are dings, scratches, and weather checking. Scratches from a belt buckle are slightly noticeable on the back.
There is a slight bulge in the body.
There is some paint peeling on the neck.
There is a crack between the bridge pins, but it has been repaired and is almost unnoticeable.
As is common with S. Yairi guitars, there is some cloudiness.
The neck is almost straight, with a very slight forward bow if inspected closely.
The string height is approximately 2.6mm on the 6th string side.
The sound is powerful with a deep bass, brilliant mid-highs, and a rich tone, truly befitting S. Yairi's highest-end model.
A Takabe-made S. Yairi hard case is included.
Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions.
