Gorgeous embroidered obi belt with peony motif
This is a gorgeous and elegant obi, passed down from my aunt who practices the tea ceremony.
I always thought, I'll wear this someday, imagining how lovely it would look with a chic solid-colored kimono, or how cute it would be with a vibrant komon or houmongi. I was so excited about the possibilities, but I've come to feel that the style doesn't quite suit my age anymore...
Still, I kept it because I felt it was rare to find a fukuro obi this gorgeous and with such a strong presence.
However, I've started to feel it's a waste to keep it unused, and that it should be worn by someone who can appreciate it. So, I'd like to pass it on to anyone who desires it.
I'm not very knowledgeable about flowers, so I was unsure if this was a peony or a tree peony, but I've identified it as a peony because of the notched leaves.
The blooming seasons for peonies are spring peonies from April to May, winter peonies from November to January, and early spring peonies from January to February. Therefore, the seasonal feeling of the peony pattern is spring. For this reason, peony pattern obi are generally considered most suitable for wearing from late March to mid-May (spring).
(However, I personally would wear it in winter too, unless it was a very formal occasion. It's such a beautiful obi, and it evokes a feeling of eagerly awaiting spring.)
