Yokoyama Taikan (横山 大観, original script: 橫山 大觀, born Keio 4 / Meiji 1 [1868] - died Showa 33 [1958] February 26) was a Japanese artist and painter. His birth name was Yokoyama Hidemaro (横山 秀麿). His maiden name was Sakai (酒井). His childhood name was Hidematsu.
He was from Mito, Hitachi Province (present-day Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture). He was a master of the modern Japanese painting world and established the unique mōrōtai (朦朧体) style, which emphasizes subdued brushstrokes and minimizes outlines. He was a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and received the first Imperial Order of Culture. Posthumously, he was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun and the Order of the Sacred Treasure, and the rank of Senior Third Court Rank. He was an honorary citizen of Ibaraki Prefecture and an honorary citizen of Taito Ward, Tokyo.

Yasukuni Shrine (やすくにじんじゃ) is a shrine located in Kudankita, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. Originating from the Shokonsha (招魂社), it enshrines the spirits of over 2,466,000 people who died for their country from 1853 (Kaei 6) onwards. At Yasukuni Shrine, when referring to the enshrined deities as mitama (みたま), the characters 神霊 are used.
In 1869 (Meiji 2), it was founded as Tokyo Shokonsha (東京招魂社, original script: 東) by imperial decree and renamed to its current name in 1879 (Meiji 12). It was formerly a special imperial shrine. From 1887 (Meiji 20), it was under the jurisdiction of the Army and Navy. After World War II, it separated from state control and became a religious corporation.
