Period: Saw-cut skin kettle, Echizen Ashiya

This is a typical round-mouthed kettle, but due to the strong demon-faced handles and the hard metal, it is believed to be a work from Echizen Ashiya around the early Edo period.

At first glance, it appears to have been hammered, but this is entirely due to the roughness of the mold and no human hands were involved.
Furthermore, the marks from the grinding when the mold was made remain as they are, conveying an unintentional beauty reminiscent of Goryeo tea bowls.
It is made of Japanese wrought iron, so it can be used for a long time.

It has an unglazed bottom, and there is water leakage from the repaired area at the bottom.
No box, the knob on the lid is slightly tilted.

[Echizen Ashiya]
One of the production areas, corresponding to present-day Fukui Prefecture. Echizen kettles have been famous since ancient times and were produced until the early Edo period.
At the end of the Edo period, Jonsetsu Onishi conducted research, but could not make a clear distinction. Research progressed in modern times, and its characteristics are now clear.
Originally, Tenmei-line craftsmen lived there and produced daily utensils for common people. However, from the Muromachi period, craftsmen from Chikuzen Ashiya moved in, and kettles that fused Ashiya and Tenmei styles were produced.
