Aragon's signature contribution was storyteller jewelry—wearable narrative scenes created through skilled freehand sawing of intricate designs into a top silver layer, which was then soldered to a textured, oxidized underlayer for contrast and depth. They depict elements of Pueblo life and the natural world: animals and their tracks, pine trees or forests, mountains or waves, weather symbols, corn (symbolizing blessing and nourishment), shooting stars, and often a trademark solid 14k gold disk representing the sun or moon. He worked without pre-drawn sketches, infusing the designs with personal humor and symbolism (one motif is said to refer to everlasting happiness). His hallmark typically combined VA with a bear paw or footprint mark. By the mid-20th century (and especially from the 1960s onward) he was regarded as a modern pioneer of Native American jewelry, ranked among figures such as Julian Lovato, Mark Chee, and Kenneth Begay. He was widely considered one of the premier silversmiths among the Rio Grande Pueblos; his work commanded strong prices and was sold through established Santa Fe dealers rather than street markets.
