Mizusashi (water container) with inscription by Horinouchi Souan, sushi oke (tub) with lacquered lid, paulownia wood box
This item was purchased by my mother from an antique shop during the Heisei era.
After some research, it appears to be a repurposed sushi tub from Tsurubesushi Yasuke, a sushi restaurant in Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, which is said to be the oldest sushi restaurant in Japan and is also featured in the Kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura.
The lacquered lid bears the seal of Sokan, and the paulownia box has an inscription.
My mother seems to have been drawn to its rarity and chic design.
I will also include the newspaper article and clipping about the sushi restaurant that were stored with it.
* It is watertight.
* The water container and lid are in beautiful condition.
* The box has some stains.
We appreciate your interest if you find this item intriguing and understand the nature of antique goods.
