Burmese Lacquerware Konjac Cylindrical Container Handmade
Displayed in a showcase.
Unused.
This is a lacquerware container called Kinma, a traditional craft from Myanmar (formerly Burma).
[Features of Kinma]
Technique: Lacquer is applied repeatedly to a base woven from bamboo or wood. Fine patterns are then carved into the surface with a sharp blade, and colored lacquer is filled into the grooves and polished. This is a type of inlay.
Uses: Originally, it was used in Myanmar and other countries as a container for a stimulant called kinnar (tobacco case). In Japan, due to its unique exotic beauty, it is highly valued as a tea ceremony incense container, a natsume (tea caddy), or a small accessory case.
Origin: It is made using traditional techniques that have continued for over 1000 years, mainly in Bagan, Myanmar.
