Description
Thank you for viewing.

This is an elegant black lacquer tea caddy made using the kanshitsu (dry lacquer) technique by Isshinsai Okutsu, a maki-e artist from Osaka.
The Gosho-guruma (court carriage), a symbol of Heian nobility, is meticulously decorated with fine gold maki-e, resulting in a highly elegant and dignified finish.
This piece utilizes the traditional kanshitsu technique, where fabric is hardened with lacquer to form the shape, giving it a unique sense of weight and warmth not found in wooden objects.
