Description
Mishima ware is pottery that originated from the Korean Peninsula during the Joseon Dynasty. It is characterized by the inlay (zogan) decorative technique, where artisans apply carved or hand-stamped patterns and fill them with white clay. Known as Mishima-de, it was highly prized by tea ceremony practitioners during the Momoyama period and has been passed down as a technique of Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki today. The texture, which deepens with use as tea stains fill the crackled glaze, evokes a sense of wabi-sabi.
