【Rare】Antique Wooden Coin Box (Zeni-masu) with Handle and Ink Inscriptions
This is a wooden coin box (zeni-masu) with a handle, actually used in old shops.
The ink inscriptions on the side, the texture of the aged wood, and the iron reinforcement fittings give it an overwhelming texture and presence that modern items lack.
■ Features
Ink Inscriptions: Characters such as 新茶 (New Tea) and 大蔵 (Okura - a historical term for treasury) can be seen, evoking the spirit of commerce at the time.
Design: Firmly reinforced with iron corner fittings, it is sturdily constructed.
Uses: Originally used for organizing old coins and collecting money, it is now very popular as a vase for dried flowers, a container for small items, or a display fixture for shops.
■ Condition
As this is a very old item (antique), there are scratches, dirt, wood cracks, and rust on the fittings due to age. We hope to pass it on to antique lovers who can enjoy these as character.
Please check the images for details.
■ Size (approximate)
Width approx. 39cm x Depth approx. 38cm x Height approx. 21.5cm
