A charming piece of mid-century needlework history — an original Laura Wheeler Designs mail-order crochet pattern for a wonderfully elaborate butterfly chair set, complete with its original postmarked mailing envelope.  Pattern: No. 771 Design: Crocheted Butterfly Chair Set Maker/Publisher: Laura Wheeler Designs / Needlecraft Department Postmark: 1952 Originally mailed to: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Materials called for: No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and No. 10 steel crochet hook  The pattern creates a decorative crocheted chair-back butterfly with coordinating armrest pieces. The oversized instruction sheet includes the butterfly illustration, detailed written crochet directions, stitch diagrams, material requirements, and finishing instructions.  The original envelope is especially fun, with the Laura Wheeler Designs illustration and Needlecraft Department return address at 82 Eighth Avenue, New York 11, N.Y., along with the original postage meter mark and handwritten recipient address.  Condition Authentic vintage condition with age-related wear. The instruction sheet retains its original folds and shows light toning, small spots, creasing and general handling wear.
