Thank you for viewing.

Kaga Lion Head, passed down for over 400 years in Kaga Province (Ishikawa Prefecture). Inami carving with a tradition of about 250 years.
An art craft attracting attention both domestically and internationally.

The artist and production date are unknown, but this is a highly finished lion head with a black lacquer and gold finish that exudes an overwhelming presence. When I received it, there was an accompanying wooden storage box with ink inscriptions, but I disposed of it.

I believe the powerful traditional carving techniques are wonderfully expressed.

In particular, the dynamic facial modeling and three-dimensionality, along with the brilliance of the black lacquer and gold finish, add a sense of dignity. I don't think you'll see this kind of color scheme online (most are red, gold, and innocence).

It's also wonderful as an interior decoration!

The Kaga Lion Head is said to ward off disaster with its widely opening mouth.
It is displayed as a guardian deity to ward off evil spirits, bad luck, and epidemics, biting a protective sword.
It is also familiar as a lion dance in festivals.
Perfect for New Year's decorations, alcove ornaments, and as a lucky charm for all celebrations and prayers.

Size: Height approx. 25cm (see photo 19)
Width approx. 47cm (ear tip to ear tip)
approx. 22cm (without ears)
Sword approx. 42cm (total length)
Material: Natural wood / Lacquer finish
*Please forgive any errors as this is a amateur measurement.

It was difficult to judge the condition of the product.
The judgment was made considering its age and pre-owned status.

Please check the condition in the posted photos.

Although not noticeable, there are cracks in the lacquer, likely due to the natural expansion and contraction of the wood and drying over time (photo 20). The cause of the cracks is my personal opinion. Please understand. The lacquer cracks can be repaired.

Stored at home. Non-smoking.

A lucky charm and amulet with a strong presence. It will undoubtedly stand out in your entryway, alcove, Japanese-style space, or even as a display in a store. Don't miss this opportunity! We look forward to your consideration.
