Engraved? Beautiful condition ☆ Ichii Itto-bori ☆ Hida Takayama wood carving mask
29.70 $
Description
Ichii Itto-bori (one-chisel, one-cut carving) begins with selecting fine wood and is completed through six processes, including wood selection and rough carving. No coloring is applied; the carving is done solely with chisels, maximizing the natural beauty of the wood.
The origin of Ichii Itto-bori dates back to the late Edo period when Ryochō Matsuda of Takayama created root carvings using Ichii wood. The Hida region has long been known for its advanced woodworking techniques, referred to as Hida no Takumi (Artisans of Hida).
This item was purchased in Hida Takayama nearly 60 years ago.
The photos were taken with a smartphone, so they appear bright due to light exposure, but in reality, the color is a uniform dark brown with no unevenness, and it is in beautiful condition. The gentle expression is very soothing.
Thank you for your consideration.
