Kagura Yamata no Orochi Eight-Headed Serpent
Thank you for viewing.
This piece was created several years ago, so I am offering it at a lower price than others.
This year is the Year of the Dragon.
How about decorating with it?
This is an ornament of Yamata no Orochi (an eight-headed serpent).
Kagura (Shinto ritual dances) were originally danced by ancient people wishing for freedom from illness, good health, and rejuvenation of the soul, and it is said that these soul-calming and spirit-invigorating rituals are the origin of various Shinto ritual performances.
The head is made by creating a mold from clay, carefully layering Japanese paper, applying a mixture of funori (seaweed glue) and gofun (powdered oyster shell), and then painting it.
The body has a bamboo frame with Japanese paper attached.
It is secured with wire inside, allowing for free shaping.
*Persimmon tannin is used as an insect repellent.
Please understand that this is a handmade item.
The body length is 190 cm.
This is the largest serpent among those I am offering.
