The creation of this book is more than just a compilation of materials.
It is a volume created to commemorate the monumental milestone of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Nagoya Kyogen Kyokai.

The masks displayed here are not mere theatrical props.

They are living masks, a fusion of gods, beasts, and humans, many of which are being publicly exhibited for the first time, passed down through the lineage of Nagoya since the Tokugawa era.

The imposing presence of Buaku, the emptiness of Usobuiki, and the strangeness of Hakurōso. Their forms exude an overwhelming individuality that surpasses the contemporary art scene.

Released from the silence of university libraries, this forbidden archive is sure to strike a primal chord with those who love masks and are drawn to the bizarre.
