Description
A single log, carved wooden mask featuring Ashinazuchi and Tenazuchi.
They are the father and mother of Princess Kushinada.
Ashinazuchi
Material: Paulownia wood.
Approximate dimensions: Width 15cm x Height 19cm x Depth 7cm
Beard length: 23cm. Weight: 168g.
Tenazuchi
Material: Paulownia wood.
Approximate dimensions: Width 14cm x Height 19cm x Depth 6cm
Weight: 122g.
The raw wood is dried in the shade for 4-5 years before it can be shaped into a mask. After that, it undergoes about 8 processes including carving, base coating, and sanding.
These were made by my father, and I've brought out pieces that were previously stored away.
There doesn't seem to be any color fading, but there are some stains on Tenazuchi's nose and right cheek (see 4th image).
I've also included an image with a 500ml plastic bottle for size reference.
