Wooden Noh Mask: Hakushiki Jo
Hakushikijo (also known as Okina) is a divine mask praying for peace throughout the land.
While created for stage use, it is a replica of masks owned by the heads of Noh schools and former daimyo families.
The Okina mask being offered is a replica made by Mihou Irie.
Older Okina masks from the Muromachi period were larger, and those from the Edo period became smaller.
As Mihou Irie was active after the Meiji period, the size is smaller compared to those from the Muromachi period.
Unlike other Okina masks from the Muromachi or Edo periods, this mask has a beautiful white finish, exuding elegance and dignity.
Among the four Okina dances, Hakushikijo is performed first, followed by Kuroshikijo (Sanda), Chichio no Jo, and Enmei Kaja.
