About Okina (翁):
Okina is a divine being, a god embodying auspiciousness and vitality in old age.
It is not a Noh play in the traditional sense.
In addition to being performed only during the New Year and other special occasions, prayer is the consistent theme throughout.
Okina, which represents the origin of Noh, was not merely entertainment for people of that time, but a ritual for ensuring their daily lives passed safely.
