Super Three-Dimensional
Showa Era

This is a three-dimensional oni mask that was stored in my parents' storehouse. I believe it's a masterpiece from over 50 years ago. It was found in its original wrapping paper and box.
I discarded the box and wrapping paper because they were in poor condition, but the mask inside is almost flawless and retains its new shine.

Made by Kahei Kose, a Showa era master craftsman, from Saga Folk Crafts.

This oni mask features a valiant black face with deep red lips and tongue, and four golden fangs protruding outwards.
The size is 25 cm in height and 17 cm in width, large enough to be worn by a person.

I am listing this item as part of my decluttering for my move.

[Origin of Men-Futatsu (Designated Intangible Cultural Property by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)]
It is said that the origin dates back over 400 years to a battle between the Otomo clan of Bungo and the Ryuzoji clan of Hizen, when Nabeshima Heiemon of the Ryuzoji side wore this oni mask and fought.
