Noh Mask (Cypress Wood) Hand-carved Vintage, 40 Years Old, Unused/Excellent Condition, With Box, One-of-a-Kind, Amulet

This item belonged to my father. It is a vintage piece acquired approximately 40 years ago. It was purchased for display purposes and has never been used, having been stored in a dark place for a long time, resulting in its beautiful condition.

The type of Noh mask is Ko-omote.
Ko-omote represents a young woman, conveying an impression of purity and loveliness.

It comes with a box, but there are no inscriptions on the box or the mask itself, so the maker is unknown.

However, it is finished using natural wood (often cypress or cedar), with a very uniform grain and visible signs of careful planing.

Looking at the wood grain, it is very fine, indicating it was crafted from precious wood.

Inexpensive mass-produced items often have coarse grain and are disguised with paint, but this piece has a natural luster and appears to be of high quality. It looks like a wax finish, as if the wood itself was meticulously polished to a shine.

The charm also lies in how the wood's color changes over the years, developing a sheen.

Furthermore, in terms of expression, the lines of the eyes and mouth are neither too shallow nor too deep, giving the expression a sense of breathing.

While it is only an estimation, it is highly likely that this was made by an experienced mask craftsman.

Scratches and color variations are almost unnoticeable as shown in the photos, but there are minor scratches around the cheeks and the tip of the nose.

Overall, there are no prominent flaws, but please understand that this is a 40-year-old item before purchasing!
