Description
Echizen Lacquerware - Lacquered Chopstick Box (Black Lacquer, Sunken Vermilion, Peony Carving)
The exterior is black (likely Tame-nuri), and the interior features a vibrant vermilion color, a style known as Uchi-shu (inner vermilion).
The lid is adorned with a gorgeous floral pattern (Peony Carving) in vermilion lines, showcasing the unique luster and traditional beauty of lacquerware.
This technique involves carving a peony pattern onto the lacquered surface with a special blade, then rubbing lacquer into the grooves and filling them with vermilion powder. The bold yet delicate lines are captivating.
The corners are rounded to prevent chipping.
Length: 25.6 cm, Width: 5.5 cm, Thickness: 2.4 cm
This item was stored in my parents' cupboard, but as I have no opportunity to use it, I am listing it for sale.
It can be used as a chopstick holder for guests, or perhaps as a container for pens or other long, slender items on a desk or in a drawer.
Although unused, please note the presence of air bubbles (Image 6) likely from the lacquering process, slight age-related scuffs and dullness, and a small scratch on the bottom (Image 7). Please review these details.
