Due to the immense effort and time required for completion, it is respectfully called Baka-nuri (foolish lacquering).
Each piece is unique; as it is hand-polished, no two patterns are exactly alike.
The Togi-dashi Kawari-nuri (polished-out varied lacquering) technique is used, where lacquer is applied dozens of times and then polished smooth to create unique patterns. Over 40 processes and a long period of about 2 to 3 months are spent until completion.
It is extremely durable (robust) due to the many layers of lacquer, and its characteristic is that it becomes glossier with use and its colors change vividly.
